Aug 29, Chris rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this story about where faeries meet humans and how their lives entwine. It reminded me a bit of Charles de Lint and the Borderlands stories. The premise is that Fey, a faerie has a chance encounter inside a large oak tree with a bat -- terrified for her life -- she used all of her magic and turns the bat into a human. And Paolo this human becomes her eternal love.
The faeries when they use their magic, lose their beauty and sparkle and so it's difficult for Fey back around her friends I enjoyed this story about where faeries meet humans and how their lives entwine. The faeries when they use their magic, lose their beauty and sparkle and so it's difficult for Fey back around her friends who are all match makers.
Essentially at the heart of this story it's a romance about true love and dedication. It's also a very clean story with good moral standing and a strong Christian faith in the humans.
That part was odd for me. I did enjoy the story and foray into a different world of Faeries. My favorite thing about this book was that I met the author at Book Fest in State College PA and we bonded over trees and the fact that when I picked up this book - every page I looked at was "under the Oak Tree", "deep in the forest" etc I was hooked. The Poet was soooooo good. I didn't think I'd go for the fairy storyline, but the characters were so interesting and real, and the story was gripping. Can't wait for next one!

I just want to say that I had the pleasure of meeting Nickie at Fairy Fest this past weekend and she was amazing! I talked with her for a while and got a copy of The Poet and I have to say I am blown away by how amazing it is just in the first few pages of the first chapter. I am a huge fan of fantasy romance and I love fairies, plus one of my favorite animals is the bat and she has taken all these things and has done something amazing.
I am already in love with the characters and the vivid way I just want to say that I had the pleasure of meeting Nickie at Fairy Fest this past weekend and she was amazing! I am already in love with the characters and the vivid way she describes the scenery is breathtaking. It's been a long time since I've been able to read a book that has given me such a clear image of what is really going on and Nickie has gone above and beyond. Even though I am not that far yet I still feel as though I am right there next to the characters, as if I could actually reach out and give them a helping hand if needed.
I reens this book to any and everyone who can't find a good fantasy romance to curl up to. I promise you will not be disappointed and I can't wait till the next book. Jan 10, Sean rated it it was amazing. In The Poet, Krewson combined faeries with present day situations in a way that just works. At first, as I was diving into the story, I did not think that she would be able to pull it off, yet, somehow, it ended up being a perfect combination. Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc.
