The jostling intensified as the leaders moved to the Freedom House on the southern side of Panmunjom, where they made brief remarks to reporters and then met for roughly 50 minutes. At one point, incoming White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham side-checked a North Korean guard who was blocking reporters from the room while others security officials frantically tried to cordon off the area with yellow rope. Grisham ended up with bruises from the fracas. The U. Secret Service intervened in the pushing and shoving match.
In one of the most remarkable partnerships in modern American political history, Soros and Charles Koch, the more active of the two brothers, are joining to finance a new foreign-policy think tank in Washington.

This is a radical notion in Washington, where every major think tank promotes some variant of neocon militarism or liberal interventionism. Soros and Koch are uniting to revive the fading vision of a peaceable United States. The street cred they bring from both ends of the political spectrum — along with the money they are providing — will make this new think tank an off-pitch voice for statesmanship amid a Washington chorus that promotes brinksmanship.

New Zealand is a beautiful place. As it happens, I have already visited there a number of times. From Rotoroa I took a helicopter out to White Island, with its boiling mud pools and lovely lake of sulfuric acid. With Hobbiton and Mordor on the same island, you really ought to change your name to Middle Earth. And as it happens, I already have plans to return. Writers, fans, and artists from all over the world will be headed down to check out all of your wonders.
I hope lots of you Kiwis will join us. As it happens, I do have enough money to make it to New Zealand on my own… but there are many American writers, fans, and artists who do not. As for finishing my book… I fear that New Zealand would distract me entirely too much. Best leave me here in Westeros for the nonce.

The last night, the last show. It is hard to believe it is over, if truth be told. The years have gone past in the blink of an eye. Can it really have been more than a decade since my manager Vince Gerardis set up a meeting at the Palm in LA, and I sat down for the first time with David Benioff and D. Weiss for a lunch that lasted well past dinner? Fortunately, they did. I had no clue, that afternoon at the Palm, that I was about to embark on a journey that would change my life. I had optioned books and stories for television and film before.
I want to thank people, but there are so many. And the crew, though less visible than the cast, were no less important. We had some amazing people working on this show, as all those Emmys bear witness. The directors were incredible as well. Most other networks, this series never gets made at all. Parting is such sweet sorrow, the Bard wrote. In the weeks and months to come, I may post about some of my favorite moments from the making of this show… now and again, when I am feeling nostalgic… but just now, there are so many memories, and no time to do them all justice.
Let me say this much — last night was an ending, but it was also a beginning. Nobody is retiring any time soon. Amazon scooped up Bryan Cogman, and put him to work on developing shows of his own, as well as helping out on their big Tolkien project. Our directors are keeping busy as well. I suspect that you have not seen the last of Westeros on your television sets either, but I guess that all depends on how some of these successor shows turn out. And me? There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced.
Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. I am working in a very different medium than David and Dan, never forget. They had six hours for this final season. There are characters who never made it onto the screen at all, and others who died in the show but still live in the books… so if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI, and a myriad of other characters both great and small that viewers of the show never had the chance to meet.
And yes, there will be unicorns… of a sort…. How about this? You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet. Current Mood: melancholy. This blog is the only place for official communication from George R. Blog Home George's Website.

Chris Schoneveld says: December 22, at pm Skiphil, what an ill-timed comment about Michael Moore after the Newtown massacre.
You are as big a prat as Moore. A nastier lump of lard I have never seen. He poisons every film he makes with his misguided political beliefs. I have travelled to the arctic circle sseveral times over the past 30 years and I can tell you without a doubt that the north is melting and rapidly. This web site has loads of data proving look at the ice pages that the planet is warming yet everyone here seems to ignore the obvious. No matter what you think or say here you will be effected by these changes.
So let me spell it out for you. There are companies that are buying ice breaking cargo ships because they intend to use the Northwest Passage to ship goods to Europe from Asia. This works because what ice that forms there is very thin and not multiyear, as it has been in the past. If you deny the fact that ice is melting you miss a great opportunity to make money.
The US military and coast guard is spending lots of money on watching the northern ports of Russia, since now they can sail where only submarines could go in the past. In addition, the value of these ports to Russian industry will be huge, not to mention the possibility of shipping all of that oil and gas globally. Oil companies are building rigs for the Arctic Ocean that will not depend on ice islands being created. They even believe the ice is melting. This is part of a huge resources grab going on in the Arctic Ocean.
I hope we get a piece of that pie. The US insurance industry is rapidly exiting the coastal insurance market. These companies deal in making decisions based on risk experience and they are running from the likes of Florida and the east coast. Pretty soon, the only insurance you will get in these areas will be backed by the government. The views shared by the people who march in lock step with this web site, are all destined to be overtaken by events. Meanwhile, as you are all trying hard to make the data fit the views expressed here, the rest of the world is moving on to living with, and taking advantage of, these changes.
Wake up and get a clue! MAC says: December 22, at pm Flashy? No wonder you are SO jealous. T Pugh: 1. The planet is warming. That is entirely a good thing 2. Human activity has nothing measurable to do with it. Global warming is natural 3. An ice-free Northwest Passage will save immense amounts of fuel, and transit time 4. Melting Arctic ice is a non-event. It will not add one millimeter to the sea level 5. It is the alarmist cult that is always trying to make the data fit their belief system.
When data and their models conflict, they discard the data It is amazing how flat wrong someone can be, about everything. The climate alarmist crowd cannot ever admit that anything about a warming world could be beneficial. That indicates how out of touch with reality they are. Wake up and get a clue yourself. T Pugh says: December 23, at am Good to meet a man who lives by his convictions. Hope you will have immense pleasure over the next few years advising us here at WUWT on how well your shares on the Arctic oil fields are doing.
Think for a moment. There must be a reason for that. You build homes on a sandbank called Long Island, the only insurance you get is federal, and ridiculously cheap. John Stossel explained on Fox News that he had the government pay him three homes over the years this way. My money is in oil, cement, steel. Heck I even made money from a ridiculous food-to-fuel operation. In a man who has risen to fame both as a hockey star and a Nobelist, I find this natural, unaffected modesty most commendable. We should by your logic also not criticize him as long as anyone is obese, or as long as anyone on the planet practizes the dark art of capitalism.
T Pugh The northeast and northwest passages were open in the s. Here is a book review about a couple of guys who did it in a canoe in Thanks for the pointer. I think you miss my point. There is a difference as the book points out that they were mostly within reach of the shore line and this passage has opened on and off over the years. The reason shipping companies are spending billions on these new ships is because it is open for much longer and over a much wider region that will allow an easy shipping route. In addition I have been to quite a few of the places noted in the book.
So I have first hand experince. Maybe I could suggest you try giong to these areas and forming your own judgement. Peter Miller says: December 23, at am ….. Any proposed cuts are always cuts designed to hurt the tax payer the most. Mann needs to be paid a visit by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Unfortunately, he would probably just send them packing, and threaten them with a lawsuit! Obviousley they are forcing hundreds of their employees to work the weekend before Christmas, visit WUWT and write comments here, just to make it look like WUWT was a popular site.
It is actually the Warmist cult that make the facts fit their so-far unsubstantiated conjecture that man is causing the rather mild and in no way unprecedented warming. If you stick around, you might actually learn something. T Pugh says: December 23, at am I have travelled to the arctic circle sseveral times over the past 30 years and I can tell you without a doubt that the north is melting and rapidly…..
Only thirty years? DickH: Boy, did I hit a sore spot. Your comments prove my point. You are shouting so loud that you are missing the events that are really happening that will effect us all in many ways. Ice breakers — because its a business bet that they can extend the shipping season by a few weeks. Russian ports — Before the USSR that was the only coast line they had and now again, the same is true.
JULY 12222 Calendar - Inspirational Quotes for Each Day
These ports were almost exclusively military in nature — remember the cold war? Insurance — the difference is that they are deserting whole states not just regions that have local problems. Ice melting — as I am sure you know there are many reasons north and south act differently — more ice in the south does not disprove the facts I have stated above.
Is Costco aware of this incredible testimonial to the professional appearance of their calendars? Some days I feel kinda bad for Mann. But that goes away soon enough. For reference, I once sent a lawyer a tube of KY pretty sure everyone can make the connection. The calendar, in comparison, was a nice gesture.
Thank you PMT. Well played, Anthony. Merry Christmas to all those who make WUWT possible every day, and to commenters and readers as well. I predict that will be even better than this year for those who are optimistic about the future of the planet! He knows it came from Costco — and yet he spews lies about funding.
I kind of feel sorry for him on a personal level, but professionally — he needs to reap what he has sown.

This one guy has caused people across the planet significant harm. In fact, the planet has cooled in the last ten years are so. See the temperature data for the last 16 years. But before you start to rejoice over this news, consider this: a warmer planet is entirely beneficial; life flourishes in warmer times. Cold is the scythe of death.
This planet is still in the ice age. Presently it is in an interstadial which cannot last and continental ice sheets will return. When this begins, it is the crack of doom. Quality of lifestyle diminishes during more severe winters. Older people especially suffer. Winter storms means death for unfortunates who get stranded or who cannot afford fuel.
This is of paramount concern for a world whose population will double and redouble this century. A cooling globe threatens world-wide famine with billions of deaths through starvation and lowered resistance to disease. Sea level will fall. Ports will be stranded.
With no ports, international trade will be ruined. World-wide economic depression more severe than any before will be the result, with economic hardship for the billion, already threatened with starvation. Present beach-front property values will plummet. So think of your grandchildren and pray for a warmer world. Most of them will perish. They already started doing so, remember the publicity stunt of the Beluga? Okay, projection, it shows. I hope I will continue to do so. Betting on an increase in inefficiency through misguided policies, driving up demand for certain things that would otherwise not be needed.
As long as you warmists continue to print money to build useless things, making societies even more inefficient, this bet looks good. Farmer Charlie, j ferguson — yeah, I think so too. Your calendar cost about the same as 2 cases of koch zero at Costco, hence the conspiracy……. His good friend, Peter Gleick, should be able to explain to him all about the perils of a bunker mentality. Oh ya right we all know that WUWT has commandeered the under ground missile silos north of the Chico airport for its underground lair.
In the climate change pantomime, Mr Mann is making himself the widow twankey. Or in the case of a royal court, he is becoming the jester. As an aside, I suppose that Mr Mann actually exists? You are shouting so loud that you are missing the events that are really happening that will effect us all in many ways….. You are incorrect. That is tacky and very bad manners. You never ask about the cost of a gift. I taught you better than that.
Now go apologize to that nice Mr. Watts for giving you a present. Your Mother. Just asked if he checked his facts before he posted. Or was it like his tree ring data, that he manipulated? Hey, Anthony, if 0. It HAD to be funded by the Koch brothers…. This is how his brain works. Just like how his cognitive bias towards his eco-religion, and lack of critical thinking skills, are what prevent him from doing real science. He is beyond redemption. Only yesterday, we had the most stupid climate change stories of the decade. Today… that article appears to be in great need of a major update.

Ahhh… Dr. We encourage you to display your calendar with pride beside your widely distributed Nobel Peace Prize. Awesome, I love it!! Boohoo, watts sent me a koch funded calender, lets impose as Charles The Moderator, ask Anthony for the koch invoices, spice them up and publicize! What a humourless knob that Mann is! Yesterday when I retrieved our mail there was a package, and I noticed it was from Costco.
The fact that my wife snatched it away from me, accusing me of looking at her mail means nothing. Reblogged this on gottadobetterthanthis and commented: Just jumping on the bandwagon without further comment. Anthony Watts says: December 22, at pm Great idea Mosh! As such, it is a useful comment. No one seems to have addressed it with respect to this post, so I will. Subtle or not so subtle differences in context need to be recognized. When Person XYZ makes a statement about climate or any other legitimate subject it is not appropriate to attack their personal appearance, the religion they were born into or accept, members of their family, and all such things.
When a person makes a public statement that is stupendously silly, seems clueless about the world, lacks understanding regarding irony, lacks a sense of humor, and a sense of good cheer during these seasonal holidays. Arguments of the ad hominem kind focus not on the evidence but on the character of the person advancing it, seeking to discredit positions by discrediting those who hold them. Some comments above might fail in this regard. Maybe we got the wrong meaning? Well done Anthony, small presents bring big smiles!
And a super thanks to Josh! Steven Mosher says: December 23, at am Anthony. Storms of our parents and grand parents….. Highly amusing.
