In the history of comedy there is a line in the sand - and that line is Billy Connolly - put simply, through sheer talent and force of personality, he has changed the face of British comedy forever. So say what you like about him but you can't deny everyone wants to know him. Weaved around private interviews with Billy, along with contributions from some of the greatest names in comedy and popular culture offering testimony on Billy his lasting influence, these two one hour specials for the BBC find Billy returning to Scotland to reveal the influences and motivations that turned him from being Billy Connolly the welder into Billy Connolly The Big Yin.

The film centres around Colin Burstead Neil Maskell who hires a lavish country manor for his extended family to celebrate New Year. Unfortunately for Colin his position of power in the family is under serious threat from the arrival of his estranged brother David. Airing on BBC Two at the very moment families everywhere find themselves thrown together for the Christmas season, it promises to make audiences snigger and squirm in equal measure.

The film will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer for a year. Join Gregory Porter and friends for Merry Christmas Baby, a seasonal cocktail of music and song with a warm and joyful, festive jazz vibe. Filmed in front of an intimate live audience in Cardiff Bay, Merry Christmas Baby has all the ingredients of a joyful winter warmer making it the perfect offering for a mellow Christmas night. For the first time in its history, St Paul's has granted the BBC privileged access to film behind the scenes in the countdown to Christmas and on the big day itself.

With over 45, visitors attending 17 magical services and events, the pressure's on for the team gearing up for cathedral's busiest time of the year. We'll be backstage when celebrities like Michael Palin perform at the most glamorous event in the cathedral's calendar, when three huge Christmas trees gifted by the Queen and each weighing more than a tonne are hauled into place, and when 2, worshippers arrive for the cathedral's iconic, candle-lit Advent Procession.

We'll discover the enormous logistical challenge that goes into supplying enough consecrated wine and wafers for the thousands that attend Midnight Mass and eavesdrop on the team of expert embroiderers restoring priceless Christmas vestments in the bell tower. We'll meet the year-old boy hoping to sing the big Christmas solo and be with the cathedral's 30 choristers as they open their presents on Christmas Day.

This is St Paul's Cathedral as you've never seen it before. Beginning with a solo choirboy singing the first verse of Once in Royal David's City, this traditional and much loved celebration of the Nativity is told in the words of the King James Bible, a poem by Laurentia Johns OSB, and a letter written from a soldier in France in , telling of the Christmas Truce. Cologne — an overview It seems like a lifetime ago when I packed my bags and…. You have to try them!! So for all those looking for a less touristy but extremely homey Christmas market with a diverse clientele — from students to elderly people and their dogs — Altes AKH is a delightful alternative. Resselpark Weihnachtsmarkt. The Market on Resselpark covers the square in front of the Karlskirche.

A wide area had been left open, covered with hay for the children to play. Nearby, a small area was fenced and two ponies were going in rounds with children on their backs. Children have a special take on Christmas — they live in a world of imagination and this is the most magical time of the year for them, when Santa is somehow able to visit every house, slide pack and all effortlessly down the chimney to arrive smiling in a puff of smoke to leave presents under the tree.

Ahhh, the ponies! Here everyone — parents and children — were very talkative. Just then one of the bundles of energy left the hay pile. Then he suddenly turned deadly serious. Maybe they went to sleep! Oh to be 6 or 7 again! Kinderpunsh and the waffles with chocolate… suddenly we were back in Kindergarten, happy and carefree. An unforgettable feeling. Christkindlmarkt at the Rathaus. This is the market with the longest tradition. Although the snow has only just started to fall, people are already congregating, drinking punch and feasting on gingerbread and pretzels.

Walking among the many huts and holiday decorations, there is Christmas-y musk in the air. The brilliantly decorated tree is festooned with a thousand brightly shining lights. With an impressive height of 28 meters, the sight of the year-old tree alone is enough of a reason to enjoy an evening in the heart of Vienna. There are dozens of different pretzels — chocolate, sugar, poppy seed, vanilla, and much more.

Classic crescent biscuits such as vanilla, spelt, coco, praline can also be found. Roidner — This stand shines with beautifully decorated gingerbread hearts, hanging down all over the stand, in various sizes. Their specialization is no doubt based around love in the cold winter days and of course their love to ginger bread in general.

For couples or loved ones, the colorful and loving Christmas hearts are the perfect gift to sweeten up the cold winter days. Dozens of small and big gingerbread hearts are up for grabs. Offered at this "all about" punch oasis are various flavors such as blueberry, orange, apple, chocolate, rum, coconut and many more for 3,50 each. It was about on a Saturday morning in late November when we arrived, and there was already a respectable crowd wandering through the market, drifting slowly from one stand to the other like ships on still waters.

It was a bitterly cold day and the warmth from the "Wiener Spiralkartoffel" stand was hard to resis. Fingers wrapped around a mug of hot tea, all extremities came back to life.
